Unable to create msi for Nortel Contivity VPN Client 4.65

Hi,

I am working on creating the msi for nortel contivity vpn client 4.65. The source installs a msi and an exe which creates the shortcut for the application. Hence the source creates two ARP Entries. When i try to create msi for the exe thats create the shortcut using wise package studio 7.0 SP2, the WSP does not create msi or wse. Did any one worked on this application for creating msi? Kindly request your suggestion in working this apps?

Regards,
S.Yuvaraj.

What do you mean it does not create a .msi or wsi? Please ellaborate on exactly the problem are you facing. Also check properly whether the shortcut is created by another msi which appears in the temp folder or install the exe after stopping the windows installer service?

Firstly, if the main set-up stub extracts and runs an MSI, you should not be creating an MSI but a transform (MST). Use InstallTailor for that.

Secondly, if all the EXE does is create a shortcut (which you can test by carpturing its execution separately), in your transform simply stop the Custom Action which calls it and add your own shortcut.

Thirdly, write a polite email to Nortel's development team, asking them if they'd like to purchase a properly-authored MSI (i.e. yours)
Rating comments in this legacy AppDeploy message board thread won't reorder them,
so that the conversation will remain readable.
