tools with minimal windows dependencies?

Hi all - this is my first post here.

I'm looking for an affordable deployment tool for Windows 2000 workstations that has the bare minimum of reliance on windows-specific features.

We have about 75 Windows 2000 workstations, with Linux + Samba on the server side - no Active Directory. I'd like to automate the process of installing security patches and product upgrades.

Thanks in advance for your suggestions!

Two I know of for sure are Unicenter and Altiris's Deployment Solution provides many snap-ins- including Unix client support.

I've not yet supported a client with Unix workstations to be managed- is anyone else out there doing this? What do you use to get the job done?

LANDesk. Its really easy to deploy patches with LANDesk and soon it will even get easier: http://www.nwfusion.com/news/2003/0707patch.html

Another consideration is GFI's LanGuard Network Security Scanner. There is a 30 day evalation version. It is a lower cost, effective product that performs a variety of functions.
