We are running Windows 2008 r2, and are running shadow copies.  Frequently when we try and restore a file "There are no previous versions available " is displayed.  The fix is to reboot the server.  However this needs to be done out of hours.  Is there anything else I can look at before rebooting

Surely starting or restarting the service would be better than rebooting??

  • Restarting the VSS Shadow copy service has no effect
    • have you check these too..
      Volume Shadow Copy - Service set as default of Manual.

      The following services should be set as started and Automatic
      TCP/IP NetBios Helper
