Some Adobe Flash installs not working?

We have a mixed environment of XP & 7 machines - various models. I've downloaded the Adobe Flash 10.3 and Adobe Flash 11 (32bit IE ActiveX) MSI packages from Adobe. Added it in as a script with the silent switch, so we can push it out to individual machines as needed.

I'm getting reports from another tech that there are some machines where he pushes flash out, and it doesn't work. User still can't load flash sites.

Now, I'm not saying this is a K1000 issue - I've tested it myself and it seems to push out and shows up in the add/remove programs just fine. However, I thought I'd ask here to see if I'm doing this wrong or if there is something else I should be doing. (I know I should be technically using managed installs/distribution to keep everyone up to date - but we don't want to start global updates like this until this Summer - right now it's on an as-needed-basis type thing, so we just push it out to IP addresses manually)

Any input is appreciated :)

One thing i would check is under software details.

For Flash make sure all your Win 7 and XP OSes are highlighted under supported operating systems.

I would still recommend using a managed install to push the installer. You can target the installs either via label and add machines to that label when they're identified as needing the update, or you can individually add machines to the list of computers to receive the MI.

Is the other tech making sure that no one is logged into the computer when he runs the script. If IE is open then the Flash installer will fail. Before KACE we were pushing Flash player installs using PSExec and that was normally the cause of the update failing. If you use an MI, then it will repeatedly attempt the install until it is successful. I generally prefer the Ronco "set it and forget it" method when available.

I have a managed install now and can't seem to get it to work - I have it set to install the MSI - manually configured with "/qn /i" as the custom parameters. The computer checks in, but it doesn't install. Any ideas?

Also, once I get a updated MSI of Flash, I can just replace the MSI and it should update all the machines then, right?

sfigg,

Just to clarify, when you chose Manually Configure - rather than Use Default - did you type the entire command line string into the blank? A screenshot wouldn't hurt. Secondly, always make sure that you associate your installation package with the correct version of Software Record. By that I mean, the specific version your package installs. r2

This will depend on what label you are using to ID the PC as needing Flash.
