Software Updates failure in SCCM

Hi

I am new to Patch Management. Please tell me how to troubleshoot isuues related to failure in Software Updates deployment. Also, how to reduce number of systems targeted under unknown status in "Update List".

Hi,

Log files are always the best place to start.

Have a read of this first http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb693878.aspx

I would have pay attention to the Client Computer Log Files first especially UpdatesDeployment.log, UpdatesHandler.log and UpdatesStore.log

These are located in c:\Windows\System32\CCM\Logs on the Client machines.

I explored some reports below and got list of systems which I was looking for.

Security Updates report:
1. Management 2 - Updates in a deployment
2. Compliance 2 - Specific software update
3. Compliance 3 - Update list (per update)
