Silent Installation LOG

Hi,

I have an application in which i need to disable some futures while installing. I have done it with INSTALLLEVEL and it works fine. But I wanted to confirm it in silent install(need to install silently as i need to create a wraaper for couple of msi's) and when i take log file of silent install of the app i could not get the ADDLOCAL property in the log file(for silent install).

I have googled a lot on this but dint get any idea.

Please can any body let me know why i cannot see the ADDLOCAL Property in the log file of Silent intsall?

Thanks in advance and i apologize if this is a silly question.

One way to check the status features which are installed is:

Take verbose of your MSI, use WILogUtl.exe it can show easily what are all the features which are installed.

In you log you'll see a line like this for every feature:

MSI (s) (98:9C) [13:17:05:536]: Feature: DefaultFeature; Installed: Absent; Request: Local; Action: Local

If it's as above the feature will be installed

Hi Timmsie,

Thanks. I knew that but as i have so many features and sub features it' being difficult to check each and every line and also wanted to know why I cannot see the ADDLOCAL property in the log file.

Hi mekaywe,

Thanks. I will give it a try. Do i need to install full platform SDK or can i install only the tools feature?

ah I see, missed that bit of your question!

You should see ADDLOCAL in your log. I just had a go which resulted in these entries throughout the log:

MSI (s) (4C:DC) [14:03:43:150]: Command Line: ADDLOCAL=DefaultFeature CURRENTDIRECTORY=C:\Documents and Settings\ CLIENTUILEVEL=2 CLIENTPROCESSID=3156

MSI (s) (4C:DC) [14:03:43:166]: PROPERTY CHANGE: Adding ADDLOCAL property. Its value is 'DefaultFeature'.

Property(S): ADDLOCAL = DefaultFeature

this is with the logging registry key - HKLM\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\Installer\Logging set to voicewarmupx
