I was just recently charged with figuring out how to edit our current SharePoint 2013 library. I was able to successfully modify the form template that is used for our package requests, but this form also populates data into a SharePoint list so we can sort through the reqests more readily.

The problem I'm running into is I'm not sure how to add fields to the SharePoint list and have it retain the data that's currently on the request form template. I'm afraid if I just add a new column it'll break all the current data fields and that I don't want to happen. Any help you could guide me with would be most helpful.
