Required info on PATCH!!!

Hi,

Can anyone pls suggest me on what changes can be done with a patch?

I am required to create a patch some of the changes done to the original msi file. The changes done may include VB Script CA, some condition checks during installation by using properties. Modifications related to files have not been done.

Could my changes included in a patch(msp)?

Thanks.

Have you seen these articles?

Coming to your actual issue, if you're not altering files [quote:Modifications related to files have not been done], patching seems pretty pointless. It seems to me your changes could be performed via script.

Hi,

Thanks for the reply.

If i am required to create a patch with changes in the dialog sequence, Custom Actions included, property value changes, etc, I can go ahead and create a patch with all these changes included.. Am i right?

For your information, I am using msimsp.exe to create a patch, not Quick Patch project.

Thanks.

FWIW, what you're outlining amounts to what most of the clients I've worked with would regard as a new package release, meaning a new MSI would be required, albeit one which retains Product Code etc.

We had a release before 3 months only. Then I started to work on this and fixed some issues related to installer. Now my client wanted to include all my fixes in a patch.
Also, I am very new to patch. That is why, I need to make sure whether all my said fixes can be included in a patch, so I can inform the client that patch can be created or if not, I need to specify valid reasons.
VBScab, I understand creating a patch for this purpose is not worth it. But after all the client requires it, so pls advise me whether we can really create a patch with all my fixes with the ‘msimsp.exe’ tool.
Thanks a lot.
