Registering file associations

I have a bit of an issue with Office 2003. Created an administrative install, only one thing is bugging me. People used to have Office XP. Some people have the photoeditor as the default image handler. As you can guess, the photoeditor is removed when removing
Office XP, through the Office 2003 MST's. And so are the file associations.

The office 2003 picture manager is installed, but it needs to get started once, before it asks the user if it should register certain picture filetypes.
Would like to automate this using the MST's.
The problem now is, that users *have* to start the picture manager once, make it the default handler for pictures before they can even open up pictures. (after removal of office XP, the association's completely gone..)
Any way around this? Anyone know the regsettings to register the filetypes during setup..? Or does anyone have suggestions on how to aquire these..? I could take a snapshot using wise before the picturemanager is started, en run it afterwards, export the regkeys.. But i don't know if that's going to work. Anyone encounter this issue before..?
Thanks in advance..!

I think u go to registries under HKCR and then that perticular extnsion type ,i.e. ".Gif" or ".Bmp" and there you will get some registry for this

You will have to overwrite/ add registry keys for open and command for each of the extension during your install to open with your program, inorder to get the display icons also associated then you might have to change the corresponding registry entry too..

Hope this helps.
