Rational Clear Case 2003

I am trying to package Rational ClearCase 2003.

I created an Administrative Install Point (AIP) using msiexec /a with SHORTFILENAMES=true.
When I install from this AIP the install rollsback because it is unable to start Rational Cred Manager service.

I found the reason for it. It is happenning because MVFS service is not getting installed properly when I install from the AIP created using

Has any one tried to create a an AIP for this product with SHORTFILENAMES=true
Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks
Rakesh.

Hi Rakesh:

Try switching on the MSI logging feature, go this way;

System Key: [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\Installer]
Value Name: Logging
Data Type: REG_SZ (String Value)
Key Value: voicewarmup

This would enable the MSI logging and would be stored in your %temp% directory. Try to look at the log what it says? However you need any help buzz us at any time.

I created the log using the /l*v switch and thats how i found that it was unable to start Rational Cred Manager service. This is happenning because MVFS service is not getting installed properly.

Hi Rakesh:

May I know what is the deployment method that you are using ? In case it's sms then try SHORTFILENAMES="False" and in case its not sms then you could probably try installing the product afresh without creating AIP.

I just finished battling this one myself. I didn't create an administrative install point. I did a manual install, and it created a log file in my temp directory. Using this log file, I created a transform using Wise (not a response file). You'll see all the properties that you have to add with the transform in the log file. Also deleted any features not desired (customer did not want local vobs).

Let me first thank all of you for replying.

I already have the transform and its working.
We are using Radia as a deployment tool. The version that we are using needs the AIP with shortfilenames to be able to manage it in its Advanced mode.

If it was SMS I wouldn't have to do this because SMS doesn't provide some management features that Radia does. And The package would have been done a long time ago :)
