Question about services control order

Hi,

In Wise, services tab, putting some service controls in there, example: stop service, delete service, start service, etc, in which order are they executed and when during the installation? Can we control this?

Let's say I have to stop a service first, replace the exe file and start the service, there will be two service controls in there, when are they executed exactly?

Thanks,

Hi Bob,

The Services tab in Wise provides you with 'Create Service Details' where along with the service name and others you also have Load Order Group & Dependencies.

I guess the customization that you wish to do can be done using these two tabs and in case you need anything more than this you will have to resort to the use of scripts in the form of CAs.
To be honest, I have never come across any package that needed such customization and would like to know in case there is any application which does.

You can't control services in the way you want using the tables. You could use a combination of Custom Actions and the tables but, TBH, it would be easier to create a script which has all the functions that you might want and call it from Custom Actions. BTW, please don't be tempted by the half-witted scripts you'll find which shell out to NET.EXE (e.g. NET STOP [servicename]). Use WMI.
