Question about installation of Dotnet Framework 3.5

Question: I always thought that when you installed a version of Dotnet , you got a new version entry under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\.NETFramework.
Now it seems that for a Dotnet 3.5 installation, this version is not appearing there even though the installer give a succes. What can be causing this ?

Not on my installs. All I see beneath 'HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\.NETFramework\' is a key 'v3.0' and another key 'v3.0 SP1'

What I *can* see is 'HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\NET Framework Setup\NDP\v3.5'

You have to wonder at how MS arrived at the thought that two keys were a good idea. Of course, the .Net f/w isn't isn't only aberration in this area (or in folder-naming, come to that). I'm going to stop before I go into 'rant' mode...
