In my opinion, the Desktop is no place for a proliferation of shortcuts. I always remove them.

Wouldn't it be simpler to NOT install the shortcut and, if users want one, run a script to create one on their own Desktop or create a separate package containing it and deploy that to their Desktop? After all, if they right-click an EXE and choose 'Create Shortcut', a properly locked-down environment will then trigger a pop-up message, telling them that they have insufficient access to the folder containing the EXE and would they like the shortcut on their Desktop instead.

Question: is there a reason why you are unable to look up the table details on MSDN/TechNet?

For a newcomer to packaging, a shortcut to these resources is essential.
Rating comments in this legacy AppDeploy message board thread won't reorder them,
so that the conversation will remain readable.
