I need to package Adobe Acrobat 7.0 for the organization without the option for update by the end users; which way to go about this? I am using Wise Package Studio 6.1. I have tried several times but have been unsuccessful with it. Any Step-by-Step guide I can follow to make this happen?. I am new in packaging. Please help...

Acrobat 7.x and Acrobat Reader 7.x (you don't specify which you are deploying in your note) are vendor supplied MSI's so should not be repackaged (via snapshot or similar methodology) in case you have gone down that route.

Instead, as the starting point, use the vendor-supplied tuner wizard to customise the installation and create a transform.

Once you have the transform, you need to add in the following registry entries into your package (using WISE) to disable the automatic updates (they are all DWORD registry values, by the way)

For Acrobat Reader 7.x

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Adobe\Acrobat Reader\7.0\FeatureLockdown\bUpdater=0
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Adobe\Acrobat Reader\7.0\Updater\iUpdateFrequency=0
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Adobe\Acrobat Reader\7.0\Updater\bShowNotifDialog=0
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Adobe\Acrobat Reader\7.0\Updater\bShowAutoUpdateConfDialog=0

For Acrobat 7.x

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Adobe\Acrobat Reader\7.0\FeatureLockdown\bUpdater=0

Hope this helps in some way.

There is a FREE tool on Adobe website called InstallShield Tuner for Acrobat, DO NOT try using InstallShield Tuner or Wise InstallTailor to create or edit the Transform because they DO NOT work. This tool has ALL of the options available that you will ever need for Acrobat 7.

i did the same task that you are willing to do. Use ITuner on Adobe site. You can easily perform various tasks with that such as supressing the updates, passing the license key etc...

Moreover, if you need to uninstall Acrobat Professional 6 before installing Adobe 7, do let me know. I also did that. Also, a tip for you, the patch 705 present at the adobe site is not a valid patch. patches upto 708 are present at the site, but for 705, you have to search it elsewhere. If you have any issues regarding patches, do let me know. I have repackaged 7.0 and will be pleased to help you.

Thanks all,

Tushar, what you're talking about is what I am actually planning on doing. Please give me the detail on that, and if you don't mind, as well as how you deployed them out - SMS, GPO? Since I am going to silence the updater, I will like to be sending the update/patches out to the user community, say like once a month or so. Thanks.
