Other options to make/capture a Transform

If Wise Package Studio wont complete a Transform capture (Install Tailor)what else could I use?

We are using Wise Package Studio and we have several times come across problems trying to create Transforms for applications packaged with InstallShield. These applications come as InstallShield .exe files. When executed they install the InstallShield base files and extract a msi file which is then installed.
If you take that .msi to another PC it will complain that the required version of InstallShield is missing. If you install InstallShield (from IIScript8.msi for instance) then you can install the msi. When we try to make a Transform for the msi with the Wise InstallTailor it get right through the process to the last screen (click finish to save the transform) and then will not complete. This has happened several times on unrelated applications and led to us re-capturing rather than using a transform.

Is there any solution to make InstallShield and Wise "play nice"?

If not, what else can I use to make the Transform and avoid having to recapture?

If you want to get down & dirty with things, use Orca. It is a free MSI table editor available from Microsoft. Think of it as Notepad for MSI. Great for those times when you have a non-standard MSI and the usual Wise tools don't work. (Wise actually does more to MSIs & MSTs than it lets on and sometimes it just doesn't work with non-standard formats such as InstallShield Script)

With Orca you can generate your own MST, merge an MST into a MSI, merge multiple MSTs into one MST. It's fantastic for validation, plus it's the only tool I found that will edit the MST created by Office 2003 deployment tool without breaking it.

First install InstallShield Script Engine

then capture the installation with Install Tailor. Remove any installshield registry entries.
then the MST should work with the MSI.
Rating comments in this legacy AppDeploy message board thread won't reorder them,
so that the conversation will remain readable.
