Microsoft office 2003(Urgent)

Hi Guys,

I am facing a problem with Microsoft office 2003.

My client has asked us to upgrade any previous versions are there in the build. But our application doesn't take care of removing access 97. so we wrote a separate exe for uninstall of access 97. if i incorporate a CA to remove access 97my mst gives a error and aborts the installation.

if i uninstall access 97 my application doesn't install access2003.
how to go about this.

there is one more request stating to choose custom install of my app. but if try doing thru MST it is not getting highlighted. i am able to select custom manually.

Please i am inneed of this help. suggest me how to go about this.

Many thanks
anitha

You should be using the Custom Installation Wizard from Microsoft:
http://www.microsoft.com/office/ork/2003/tools/ddl/default.htm

Unless you specify what you want installed using the MST, it will only install what was previously installed. At least that is the case for Office 2000 and later (I never tried to see if they took non-msi versions into account). But either way as long as you use the CIW to generate the MST you should get what you ask for (it may even handle removal of that very old Access for you).

Not sure what you mean by the MST not getting highlighted. Use the command line the CIW generates to be safest. One common mistake is to confuse the TRANSFORMS property (you need the "s" and it must be ALL CAPS).

Hope this helps,

Hi BOB,

we created mst thru CUSTOM INSTALLATION WIZARD. My concern is i am not able to select custom install through MST. And i am not able to install access even if i select that checkbox through MSI.

Hi Anitha,

YOu can try the Custom Maintenance Wizard (CMW) from Ork Tool. It's almost the same with doing an MST.. Click here.

When you created the MST with the CIW, you are able to check exactly what features you want (like choosing custom installation) so I'm guessing you missed a checkbox early in the process-- kick off the CIW again and look close. I've done it several times so I know its there, if you still can't find it let me know and I'll see if I can find where you may be going wrong.

Hi Bob,

I created mst twice using CIW. As u told i am able to select the features but not the installs like custom, complete, typical etc.

there is a property called InstallMode in one of the dialog which is responsible for the selection of installation. I gave custom in that property which still shows default value which is complete while installing mst.

And the second one is there a dialog which shows a group of checkbox which is responsible for word, excel, access ext.

INSTACC is the property which is responsible for selecting access. I gave yes in that property. if i installmy app then access checkbox is selected, but if i continue to install in the subsequent i am not able to see access got selected(etc in summary dialog). but if i uncheck the checkbox and check it again i am able to install access.

Please suggest me wat to do.

On Page 6 of the CIW what actions have you chosen? You need to change the option from "Default Setup Behaviour" to the custom option, you can then specify that you want Access 97 removed as part of the setup.

If I understand you correctly you want the MST installation to promt you for a Custom Installation? Like the behaviour would be if you were running a normal off the cd office install?

If that is the case then I don't believe is can be done in the CIW, infact I wouldn't know if it can be done at all with a MST setup. However you could create a number of transforms with different components of office installed, or put the features on the "Install on First Use" list. That way people that wanted certain components would get them and everyone else would get the basics.
