The version 9 of the official doco for silent and/or offline installs is at: ftp://ftp.kofax.com/pub/support/capture/kc/9/product_documentation/user_guides/english/kc_9_0_installation.pdf

Looks like you can configure INI files called by setup.exe with the SQL server name and account creds.

I know this is an old thread and there are a few Kofax threads floating around, but maybe this will help someone else. I searched and searched Kofax's KB and whitepapers but only found the above doc with some crafty Googling searches.

Start here, then report back. Admittedly, these concern v8 but, in my experience, vendors tend not to change their installs much.

Gilbert,

as stated by Ian, my experience is only with version 8.0, but what I ended up doing was make a script to start the setup directly from the server-share (this was necessary to correctly link the client to this server), then I made a second script to run the SetupF.exe part (finalisation) after a reboot (the part that's explained in the posts Ian linked). Reason for the reboot was the addition of a directory in the PATH variable by the initial setup which, since it was running under LocalSystem, required a reboot to properly come into scope.

Here's hoping version 9 behaves nicer, cause I found the packaging of version 8 to be a rather painful experience...

Good luck!

Thanks for your prompt reply, I have visited the thread already.

My problem is I can not acces the application Kofax Capture. I use the Capture.msi for the installation, Please see the sequence I have done.

1. Install MS DOT Framework 3.5 SP1
2. Install MS SQL 2008 express edition
3. Install Kofax VirtualReScan 4.5
4. Run the Capture.msi

It install properly but the problem is once Ive run one of its shortcuts it prompt an error " [4140]KdoLib: The database has not been configured. Please contact the Kofax Capture administrator."

Can you help me how to configured the SQL 2008. Need a install command for this. Please let me know if you can help me.

Thanks,

Hello PJ,

I have divided the package into two parts one for the prerequisites of Kofax Capture and the other one is the Kofax Capture(main exe) to suppress the reboot. I just experience during the testing from other machine it not install properly or it will rollback.

BTW Im using marimba technology I divided the package because the factor is the application is too large, to suppress the reboot in the middle of the installation.

CAn you help me how can i setup the confguration for SQl 2008 express edition

Thanks,
GIBO

Gilbert,

unfortunately in our environment the SQL server is not installed on the client machines. All that gets setup client-side are a number of ODBC connections to the Kofax Application Server, where the SQL databases are setup.

So I cannot give you more details on their setup, they're managed by a different team here.

EDIT: as a side note I'd like to stress again that I HAD TO run the installer directly from the Kofax server share in order to get the linking right with this server. I seem to remember getting similar errors to the one you describe when running the installer locally (notice I run the setup.exe, not the msi directly)
