KACE Office 365 proplus managed Install assistance

Hi All,

I'm experiencing an issue when I deploy o365 through KACE managed installations where the package successfully deploys but the desktop/taskbar icons don't get created during the process. I can manually run the setup file paired with the configuration.xml parameters that I've specified and it works normally, even from the KACE downloads folder it's assigned to.

Currently my distribution looks like the following:

(folder) Office Deployment Tool 2016
setup.exe
configuration.xml (2 actually, one for 32 and one for 64b installs)
Office folder containing both the 32/64b versions of o365 2016
setup.bat - bat file that determines the OS architecture and then deploys the software

It's not a significant or major issue, but was curious if anyone may have some forethought or direction as to what may be causing the icons to not get created during the installation process.

Thanks!

What user are you running it as?  When you run it manually, you are using the account you are logged in with.  In a MI or default kscript, you are running it as localsystem.

You might have to specify a user.

  • Hey Jnox,

My first thought was user authentication too. I've tried is running as the local admin, my domain admin (which is also configured as a local admin via gpo), and system account via psexec with the (s) switch.

The way the install works now is that KACE deploys the installer to the workstation, executes the batch file, the batch file identifies the OS, and then chooses the installer to run based on the result. The script is configured to run from the batch file folder using the variable "%~pd0%" followed by the setup executable. Running the installer under the system account and my logged in or as administrator executes properly. What doesn't work is the deployment via KACE, but to my understanding KACE launches processes as the system account which is why I was semi confused as to why it works with PSexec but not KACE.

Edit: I should also note that KACE does actually install the software, it just doesn't create the users desktop icons. - rrjustin 8 years ago
