K1000 Virtual

Does anyone have a K1000 VM running more than 10,000 nodes? I've read the link below, but I've also heard that the VM side is suppposed to be getting better. I'm wondering if this is just a dated article, or if it's still the case. We're looking at transferring 12-15,000 of our nodes over.

I had customers which using this.
Usually no problem as you can give a VM more vRAM and vCPU if needed. But the VM is limited with only 500GB HD space. a physical box can have more.
I would always take a physical box with that many nodes as you are planning except you have enough spare ressources on your vmware cluster and use the space carefully.

  • The space shouldn't be an issue. These nodes have the agent just for inventory/auditing purposes. I'm thinking of setting the check interval to 24 hours. I guess my next task would be how to run reports querying both databases in the same report. We're just trying to declutter our Kbox. We have machines that we do patch and push to, and we're always having to "not include" certain machines in our labels. Gets old sometimes. - dugullett 10 years ago
