K1000 upgrade

Will there be any issues with the interface of the K1000 with different versions of the agents running in the environment? What kind of load will be expected on the K1000 during agent upgrades? I have almost 2000 agents deployed globally and only about 600 of them are in the office where the appliance sits. Should I turn up the Tasks that can run at once during the deployment of the new agents?

Can you let us know what versions you are on? Some upgrades require a minimum level for the agents. In general you can run different versions on the KBOX while you are using the Agent updates from KACE to update everyone.

It shouldn't be that much of a hit as they would only upgrade when the check in and provide inventory.

Please keep in mind that full functionality is supported only with like server and agent versions.  So to take advantage of all the features in 5.3, both server and agent need to be at 5.3.

An agent that has just been upgraded will try to submit its inventory to the K1000, so it's best to set a long Run Interval before enabling upgrades for 1000s of machines.

I would not alter your tasks on the K1000 before upgrading agent.  Your task value is set based on your previous experience in how busy your K1000 can get.  Keeping tasks where it is will help keep the K1000 performing well.  Raising tasks higher than what you feel your appliance can handle could make it behave more slowly.

Another reason to get up to date with your agents is that it is possible for future K1000 releases that upgrades from an old agent such as 5.1 won't be supported.

I found that the old agent didn't run very well with the new server. It was causing the box to lag and run very slowly. However, once we upgraded the client the performance issue on the box disappeared. I'm actually quite pleased with the performance of the new agent it runs really well in comparsion to the 5.1 agent. I upgraded from 5.1 server to 5.3 server (a step upgrade) and from agent 5.1 to 5.3

Similar to what ms01ak stated, the older versions with the old file structure run a bit slower and the newer versions seem to drop the load quite a bit. We are currently on the latest version with some 5.1 agents still out there and I am still pleased with the performance.

Best practice is to plan your ugrades in stages by using Labels via 'Limit Update to Labels' and let the K1000 deploy the agent updates automatically.

So 5.3 seems to run better on the client?   I have had a small number of users complain about performance issues and they want to blame the client and at times remove it I have been holding off on the upgrade because of other issues I saw but now I am thinking I should bite the bullet and upgrade especially if it improves client performance.
