Scripting

When I look in Kace 1000 at software I see multiple installs of Microsoft SQL Server 2014, but some are some are Enterprise, some are Developer and some are Standard editions. I would like to be able to differentiate the editions for licensing purposes. Is there a way to run SQL statements (select serverproperty('edition") in a script perhaps or would it be possible to create a custom inventory field for this?  I would welcome any advice. Thanks,
