installshield silent installation errors
I have created a silent response file for an installshield installer executable. The silent installation proceeds correctly when run as a user, however when the the silent installation is run as the local admin the installer fails with an error code of -3 which indicates missing information from the iss file? I am perplexed because the installer works when run as a user.

Does the EXE extract and execute an MSI? I ask because this is the classic symptom of an MSI with a Custom Action in the User Interface sequence which isn't duplicated in the Execute sequence so, during a silent install - when the UI sequence is bypassed - the install fails.
As such, you may as well work with the MSI directly, since you'll have to alter it anyway (by way of a transform) to get it to install silently.

Why does the installation only fail for the administrator and not the user though?

Add the /f2"C:\Setup.log" logging switch and see if you get some details what's missing
