Installing single Office Excel 2007 on a Office 2003 installation
Hello, there is a request for Excel 2007 for about 10 users but we have Office 2003 installed in all workstations. I do feel that its not possible to have Excel 2007 installed on top of an Office 2003 installation but in case I'm wrong i would appreciate any feedback as there nothing much over the net. I'm gussing that it's best to have the entire Office 2007 suite for these users.
thanks in advance

I have just tested installing Excel 2007 on top of Office 2003 and installation worked as expected. Though i haven't tested the full functionality of Excel but tested it basically and it worked fine.
I hope office applications are smart enough to resolve compatability issue automatically. Only things is at the time of installation you need to make sure that first remove only excel 2003 feature and then only install Excel 2007 features.
Cheers!

I think MS have probably cracked how to have multiple versions of Officeby now :) Remember that since Office 97, MS has used a version number in its folder structure (e.g. [ProgramFilesFolder]Microsoft Office\Office12) and it's in here that the contentious stuff will live.
@harjind: You'll probably want to either set the XL2007 folks to use the legacy Office format for their files by default or to distribute the Office Compatibility Kit (have I got that name right?) to the remainder so that each can open th eother's files.

thanks VBScab, we do have Office 2007 Compatibility pack rolled out to all workstations but the features of this tool is limited to open, edit and view files of Office 2007. It is learnt that there is an advantage of using Excel 2007 whereby it can handle up to 1,048,576 rows at a time. 2003 and legacy office has only 64k rows. That is why these 10 users needs the latest office. Compatibility pack does not include this feature.
