Infor req on 'UpgradedFilesToIgnore' Table

Hi,

I m creating a patch using msimsp.exe and PatchWiz.dll. Since this is the first time, I am working on patch.

I need some clarification in the 'UpgradedFilesToIgnore' Table. As of my understanding from the help files, this table should include the list of those files (in the target msi) which are not getting affected by the patch. Say, this patch is going to replace 10 files out of 100 files, then this table should include the remaining 90 files?

Pls correct me if i am wrong.

Thanks.

Hi Vijay,
did you read this: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa372376(VS.85).aspx ?
This is clearly a table, which a "normal" patch never uses.
Like described in the example, you need very specific conditions, which may make the use of it usefull.

Hello Nick,

Thanks for the Reply.

My application contains many binaries (dlls, exe, xml, dot, jpgs, pdfs). I am sure that the jpgs and pdfs have not been changed. So, If i include those pdfs and jpgs in the 'UpgradedFilesToIgnore' table, will be patch size be reduced?

Because the application contains many such files, so i just want to make sure that by listing those files in this table will reduce the patch size..

Thanks.

Is it me? Is it?

I'm wondering why you are creating a patch containing 100 files if only 10 of them are being upgraded...isn't it simpler to just have the patch contain the files you WANT to upgrade?

Yes. I mean to say that only.

My main application (msi) contains those many files. The patch should update only some files(say 10 out of 100 files) of the main appl.

I am using MsiMsp.exe tool to create the patch. My doubt is, in the table 'UpgradedFilesToIgnore' in the .msp file, should i add files(say the ramaining 90 files), so that the patch will ignore those files. Will the patch size be reduced in this sense?. OR let me keep this table blank?

Thanks.

Ok then. I will proceed with leaving that table blank.

Thanks.
