Image for Motion 10" tablet

I was handed a a project to image 300+ Motion 10" tablets running Windows 7 with propriatory software installed and told they are needed by the end of next week. I'm completely new to the K2000 but I've read that items that are not managable by the K2000 can be booted via USB. Where do I start with this - has anyone worked with the Motion Tablets (or any tablet before? Can I also Pull and image from a tablet to the USB drive as well?

Thanks. Russ

I created a bootable flash drive image using KBE 32. I was able to boot the Motion Tablet to a point but it errors out trying to find the ip address of the k2000. Does booting from the USB give me the same menu as booting from K2000 or is it just for "pushing" out an image to the unit? I want to boot to the tablet and pull an image from the tablet to the USB drive - is that possible?

When you boot up the tablet, try doing an ip config.

Check to see that you have an ip address.

If you don't you need to add the nic driver.

If you do, try a kgetdhcp.exe 66 to see if it finds your K2 IP.

The Motion (CL 900) Tablets do not have built-in network. Wireless, USB and Digital media are the only inputs so that's why I'm booting from the USB.

If its windows 7, you should be able to create an image from another machine (make sure you sysprep).

After that create a bootable flash for that image.

I think it'll work...

You could also try a USB NIC with PXE support to capture the image. Just make sure you have the proper driver in KBE.

Bootable image that is created is corrupted. I captured a syspreped Win 7 image and clicked the "Create bootable USB flash drive image for this System Image" . After the image was done I downloaded it to my pc and tried to un-zip the file but it errors saying the file is corrupted. I've tried this 3 times and the same results. All files are the exact same file size and all. Thoughts?

What are you using to decompress it? I've seen issues like that happen with the Windows built-in compression tool, can you try it with 7-zip or WinRAR? Those usually work well.

I'm using WinRAR and 7Zip. It's failed with both. I've made two different Win 7 images - one with specific drivers, Win 7 updates and syspreped and one with just Win 7 updates and syspreped. Both failed when trying to unzip after downloading from Kace. I did try the basic Win 7 syspreped image (no updates) and it works fine. Looks like I can't update Win 7 (OS updates), sysprep it and capture the image. I'm on my 5th attempt now.

I finally got a docking station for the Motion Tablet CL 900 (LAN and USB connections) but I'm now having a different issue. I'm able to boot to the K2100 Systems Deployment Menu as normal and select the Windows deployment & recovery KBE 32. I get the Loading KBE0001.iso screen and after a minute or so it says Ready. However, at this point the Tablet boots to the local drive. No issues or errors it just boots to the drive. Kace does have the driver for the tablet which is a SMSC LAN 9500A USB to Ethernet.
Am I doing anything wrong?

After many failed attempts to network boot into the k2000 (extracted iso - said Ready - then rebooted) or USB boot I finally got it to respond with the USB thumb drive. Same KBE was used it just took many attempts. Trying to pull an Image from the tablet right now then will attempt to boot again and install the image. My goal is to sysprep our image and push to the other tablets. Now I have to figure out how to join them to the domain in sysprep. Never did this before.

Was able to Capture an image from the Motion CL900. Now the issue I'm having is the CL900 has 2 partitions C: & D: (C is for booting and D was the drive that was captured) and I deployed the image to the tablet which seemed to work because it said it was successful but it didn't. All I get on restart is a black screen. How can I deploy the image to the correct partition using K2000?

  • We are trying to create an image from a CL910 and install it on 40+ motion tablets. Did you have any success creating an image and installing that image on the motion tablet? - ColaCruiser 11 years ago
