I am unable to successfully deploy an image via the network to a laptop with an self encrypting SSD. Is this a known issue?

I'm testing the K2000 image deployment capabilities and so far booting a workstation from PXE and deploying an image works normally as long as the target system has a standard SSD or standard HDD. If the drive is an Self Encrypted SSD then the image deployment will fail to complete, error out, or simply hang. The drives having the issue are Intel 530 SSD. I was wondering if anyone else has run into issues with SED's and if there is a fix or workaround. Thanks!

It seems to be a problem with that 530 serie and the BIOS.  source
A sollution what I read (but did not test) is a firmware update.

I just returned the disk and got a different one...

  • Thanks! The BIOS is up to date. Looks like what little is out there on the subject of SED's is saying that the hardware encryption must be disabled in order to image via the network. Can anyone confirm? - jgraz01 9 years ago
