HummingBird 11.0.0.0

Hi Friends,

I am currently working on a package called Humming Bird version 11.0.0.0 which is a Vendor MSI. I am supposed to delete the desktop shortcut but have a lot of problems doing the same.

This shortcut actually does not seem to be a shortcut in the first place. By that I mean that when package is installed I m unable to delete the shortcut. Moreover the shorcut does not show any properties when right clicked. My current diagonis tells me that it might be coming through the registry.

Regards.

Check for the shortcut registry here.....

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Desktop\NameSpace\

here you will find registries for recycle bin, my computers etc.

hope this helps

Hi,

I tried deleteing this registry but does not make a difference. The icon association is removed but there appears a windows default icon. This shortcut cant be removed even if tried to be removed forcibly.

Also deleting resources related to this destop shortcut it affects a shortcut (for the same). This is place in the Start Menu\Programs.

Also have a look at:
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\MyComputer\NameSpace

Aren't you supposed to use Sconfig to build the MST? Maybe things would work out better using that tool?

We've used both Wise Package Studio and ORCA to create MSTs for version 8 & 9, don't know if there are any restrictions for version 11 though, but didn't have any issues. This was Hummingbird Exceed.

The desktop shortcut should be located under HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Desktop\NameSpace, some could also be in the Shortcut table.

India_Repackaging, which Hummingbird product is it?

Hi,

If you find challenge in deleting the namespace, Try hiding it by setting the following reg value..

HKLM\Software\Microsoft\windows\currentversion\explorer\hidedesktopIcons\NewstartPanel - > Give the Component id – set the dword value as 1

Cheers ,
