how to mass modify a field in service desk

I have a need to modify a field (customer) in all tickets (open and close) where the field now contains customer = abc and I need it to be customer = xyz. Can this be done with a SQL script?

Yes, this is possible. You can actually use the wizard to create a rule that does this, no custom coding should be required.
