hi i have one application and app owner want the applicationn to be launched but without desk top short cut. so in this case i have to craete mst and delete the desktop shortcut from there right? am i on the right track?

Yes.. If there is no other shortcut then you can create on in Start Menu->Programs

Yes, you can delete the desktop shortcut. If they want to remove all shortcuts the best way to do that (in my opinion) is to go to the InstallExecute table and enter a condition in the CreateShortcuts action that will never be met so the shortcuts will never get created.

For example:
Table= InstallExecuteSequence | Action= CreateShortcuts | Condition= SHORTCUTS | Sequence= 4500

remove the desktop shortcut in and create under start> all programs if the shortcut is necessary

IF i understand correctly, "app owner wants the application to be launched but without desktop shortcut". Then in this case, u might have to add the shortcut to Startup folder or add the exe to the Run registry key.
