If it's for a PoC, then why not use trial versions of software?

180 day SCCM 2012 trial - http://technet.microsoft.com/en-gb/evalcenter/hh667640.aspx

21 day InstallShield trial - http://www.flexerasoftware.com/resources/free-trials/?__utmx=-&__utmv=-&__utmk=206452499&__utmz=129438163.1407489444.1.1.utmcsr%3D%28direct%29|utmccn%3D%28direct%29|utmcmd%3D%28none%29&__utma=129438163.773588667.1407489444.1407489444.1407489444.1&__utmc=129438163&__utmb=129438163.2.9.1407489447506#installshield

30 day Advanced Installer trial (some features are freeware) - http://www.advancedinstaller.com/download.html

This will confirm the PoC and trialing the software will guide you to which ones you'd like to be purchased if the PoC results in something being taken up.

Hope that helps,

You could try the free K1000 Express for inventory:  http://www.kace.com/k1express/

For free deployment options:

You might try WPKG: http://wpkg.org/

Haven't used this, but opsi might work: http://www.opsi.org/en

Spiceworks offers a free version, but not familiar with it:  http://community.spiceworks.com/

The short answer is this; you have to pay money and get the proper tools & training to perform the automation you - and management - want.  There are no shortcuts, no easy way around it.  You gotta pay to play.  Want to drive to work? You have to buy a car.  You can't build one out of duct tape, toothpicks, wire hangers and other things lying around the house. Same goes for technology in the office.

As dunnpy said, use trail version for POC alone.

The only thing that's cheap here is your management. Ask them: "Are you using Excel to run this company's accounts?" Is our personnel data kept in a Microsoft Access database?"

As vjaneczko said, use the correct tool for the job.

you can try RayPack  from Raynet ( www.raypack.net)
this product is created by Packagers , for Packagers.

Best product for the lowest price!  I am now switching to RayPack as my preferred packaging product.
If you own a competitive product , you will get RayPack for FREE!!

let me know if you have any questions

Don't forget the free version of AdminStudio for SCCM, Altiris and LANDesk. (But yes you have to buy either SCCM, Altiris or LANDesk)

also, worth a look at... http://speedpackaging.com/download/
