ENTEO

Maybe this is a wrong place to ask this??

Has anyone ever used ENTEO? If you have, what do you think about it?

Thank you.

We use the NetInstall product from Enteo at my current company. I'm pretty happy with it. There's a lot of granularity in how you distribute packages, and the support for remote locations is pretty good. I have some issues with supporting non-officed workers, and other minor issues, but overall I'd rank it pretty high. If you have specific questions, I'll try to answer...

Thanks for reply.
I wanted to know more about packaging. Does it have to be an msi or everything has to packaged in enteo format? How is functionality packaging difficult packages, and how accurate is the snapshot comparing to Wise and Installshield? Is distribution similar to SMS? Can you advertise to a machine, user, or a group of users? Do you have to created collections same way as in sms? Also I have looked at some forums, and there are a lot of them, which tells me that there are issues, which is expected, but they all are in German. Thank you.

Everything gets packaged in an enteo format. If you have an MSI , it's a one line script to install the msi silently and lets you attach any msts needed. Very simple. The downside (in some ways) is that you don't end up with a repackaged executable that can be used outside of NetInstall. NetInstall packages only work for NetInstall. How is functionality packaging difficult packages, and how accurate is the snapshot comparing to Wise and Installshield?I'm most familiar with Wise. The snapshots look as complete as any I've done with Wise. There are fewer wizards to drive the scripting, but if you work in the script editor primarily, it's quite good. Is distribution similar to SMS? Can you advertise to a machine, user, or a group of users? Yep. You can assign Interactive or Automatic installs to any AD object. The scheduling allows you to control distribution by site as well, so you can make a project available to a user if they are in the office, but not if the are on a VPN connection.Do you have to created collections same way as in sms?I'm no SMS expert, but I think collections work the same way in NetInstall, but you need the Inventory product in addition to NetInstall. They're integrated, but available seperately. (We don't have Inventory.[:o] ) Also I have looked at some forums, and there are a lot of them, which tells me that there are issues, which is expected, but they all are in German. Thank you.

That's a real problem. I'm always looking for other users who see similar problems, and would love to build a user community. But enteo was recently acquired by an American company, so there may be growth in this market, so that most users are not European. They do have support available in the US as well, with American techs available by phone.

Hope that helps!
