App-V Packaging Standards

Hi ,

Has anyone created packaging standards for App-V packaging that they would be interested in sharing. I have a lot of different documented standards for MSI and a couple for SVS but haven't found anything for App-V
Also does App-V handle services and ODBC ok?

Thanks in Advance.

Yes App-V can handle ODBC DSNs, as for standards they can vary as much as any other packaging standard. If you break out Google you should have noticed this.

Thank you for the information. They were great links that I hadn't come across.

Sorry if I seemed a bit grumpy. In the middle of a Vista rollout so I'm up to my eyeballs in application issues.

You should be done that project around the time W7 hits the shelves. [:D]

Actually the way it's going I might be done sometime in the new year. Job security I guess. [8D]

Have you guys had to do much shimming?
I've done a few W7 shimming engagements but it's tough to find apps that require it now that most vendors have Vista-ready versions.

What planet (customer) you from? We aren't doing tons of shimming but some and we are finding our vendors to still be behind the times when it comes to Vista functionality. We get vendors saying they "support" Vista but it doesn't mean that they tested anything. [:@]

I was asked a question the other day about shims and virtualization, are there any documents about when and if this is used? thanks

You can use shims but the shims need to be applied outside of the sequence.
