Don't get confused with Self Healing and Self Repair.. Both are same.. When you say Self.. that means it is an automatic process... ofcourse it is a Feature level (self) repair... :).. Administrator effort is not required for self-heal/self-repair process..

But... Repair is different :)

When you say Repair.. You might have seen this in Add/remove program.. or in maintenance window or can be triggered using /f... it will not be started by itself.. you have to trigger it.. ofcourse it is product level (not self) repair.. Administrator effort is needed here..

A self-heal is component-based and is kicked off when launching an application.  MSIEXEC checks the component and if key files are missing, reinstalls them.  A repair is launched manually and repairs the entire application install.  There are more options available when launching a repair (look up MSIEXEC syntax for options); a self-heal only restores the install of the component in question.
