Admin Studio & Wise Package Studio Training
I am looking to get training for repackaging using Admin Studio or Wise Packaging Studio...
Has anyone taken Admin Studio or Wise Package Studio Training in New York or New Jersey areas ?
Can anyone recommend (discounted if possible) training courses in New York or New Jersey areas ?
I'd appreciate your help.

I just got back this past Thursday from the Wise Package Studio training (Thanks Todd R, Orlando, Florida). It wasn't discounted ($2,000), but it was worth it to get a better look at how the product should be used. It was a *huge* help in getting a better understanding of MSIs.
They come to New York, and it looks like they'll be there at the end of March. They come to Boston as well, but I'm told not until May or June, and nothing definitive.

Both vendors have information on their respective web sites. Wise = Altiris = Symantec http://www.altiris.com/Services/Education2.aspx
InstallShield = Acresso http://www.acresso.com/services/education.htm?link_id=topnav

Am new to application packagaing, what would you advice for someone like me who is new to application packaging to go for first, Installshield or AdminStudio?
from experience it does not matter whether its wise or installshield
your just want to get to grips with using the tools
wise installshield
setupcature repackager ---------- creates msi from legacy setup
intallltailor tuner -------- creates mst from your vendor msi
what you really need is to get a good understanding of msi technology

what you really need is to get a good understanding of msi technologyThis should have been your first sentence. Unless one has a grip of the fundamentals and an understanding of what an MSI is, learning the tools is pretty pointless.
Get yourself a copy of Phil Wilson's The Definitive Guide to Windows Installer and read that before you even install a trial version of any tool.

I very much doubt you'd need training. It's like switching between Office and Open Office: it's a question of semantics/grammar and UI differences.
Wise / IS the tools are all the same. once you have used one of them , it should not be a problem using the other
as you said the UI is different correct i.e custom action wizard in IS and in Wise using CA is just a drag and drop

Why would anyone start with training for Wise PS or Adminstudio really? You'd learn a lot more by getting down and dirty with the Windows Installer Reference documentation and learning the tables by using a table editor like InstED/Orca.Then once you've aquired Windows Installer knowledge, using either Wise Package Studio or Admin studio will be easy because you know the underlying technology instead of the GUI (WPS/AS) that is built around it.

In my opinion a training can be very usefull!!! Especially when you want to have a "jump-start"in application packaging. Although at a minimum you must have a little experience and enthusiasm in packaging. Without that you won't have any succes I think. In my case I had very little experience, but because I did the Wise course, my eyes where opened in the world of application packaging.
