100% new to MST file creation. Adobe Acrobat Standard 8 and Wise IntsallTailor
Okay first off tell me anything that may be better ot use or that i may be doing wrong. I want to customize our MSI installs for MANY applications we have floating around.
I decided to start with Adobe Acrobat 8 Standard.
I took the media and copied it to a server and I then installed WISE InstallTailor - InstallTailor_6_0.msi
I then went through and ran theinstall tailor and did the following -
Asked for Path to MSI - I drilled down to AcroStan.msi
Click Next - I got an error stating IntallTailor in the title bar and in the middle portion I got This package does not support hiding dialogs. (possibly a reason for my final quandry?) and gives me a single Okay button.
Click okay and do all the install portions(Add user and serial number, change to complete install, and so on down the line).
Click next through the rest and get an AcroStan.mst and a AcroStan.lnk.
In the link I get a path of - C:\windows\system32\msiexec.exe TRANSFORM="AcroStan.mst" /i "AcroStan.ini"
If I run this it does in fact go through the install completely with all the information I had programmed and the options.
Wooohoo I am doing great right???
Hardly...
When I try to make it quiet by adding the /qn switch to it (C:\windows\system32\msiexec.exe TRANSFORM="AcroStan.mst" /i "AcroStan.ini" /qn) it has a problem. It will not install at all. I then try the /qb switch to make it so I can see some install prompts and I get an install prompt of - Please wait while Windows configures Adobe Acrobat 8 Standard" this is then almost immediately followed by a pop up box titled Adobe Acrobat 8 Standard with a yellow exclimation mark on the left that displayes the serial number and error in a fashion suchs as XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX error. I even tried to add that ISX_SERIALNUMBER"XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX" into the shorcut I am modifying but this had no effect on the error.
I guess the question is is the way you have posted in the package section the ONLY way I can get this to deploy correctly? Do I really have to install another mst creator instead of this WISE to get the job done? If wise can't do this is there a better one to use to make MSTs?

Acrobat is a pain in the a*se to package without using Adobes Customization Wizard. It can be done with Wise but is messy, why struggle with you can go the lazy route? Get it here or I think it’s on the media somewhere too.

PS. Don’t worry about when the ‘not supporting hidden dialogs' msg, its not a problem.
PPS. Here’s hoping you don’t have to deal with eLicensing ; )
