SANTA CLARA, Calif.—November 15, 2005—Macrovision™ Corporation (Nasdaq:MVSN), today announced enhanced support of Microsoft Business Desktop Deployment (BDD) and the Microsoft Solution Accelerator for BDD, with a new version of FLEXnet AdminStudio SMS Edition and improvements to the existing capabilities in the complete FLEXnet AdminStudio product line. The announcement builds on the October 11, 2005 release of FLEXnet AdminStudio 7, which added a wide range of new enterprise capabilities designed to reduce application packaging costs, accelerate time to deployment and increase overall IT productivity.

“The Microsoft Solution Accelerator for Business Desktop Deployment delivers guidance for efficient planning and deploying of Microsoft Windows XP and an enterprise’s applications,” said Tim Sinclair, general manager of Windows at Microsoft Corp. “Macrovision’s latest desktop support for Windows, including the AdminStudio SMS Edition and new capabilities in FLEXnet AdminStudio 7 and Workflow Manager, demonstrates Macrovision’s commitment to helping enterprises with large-scale migrations and application deployments align with BDD best practices.”

As enterprises face the challenge of upgrading to Windows XP, Microsoft offers Business Desktop Deployment (BDD) guidelines for improved process management for both software and systems maintenance. Macrovision enhances the BDD initiative by offering key capabilities and resources for enterprises that are designed to ensure that their migration and software packaging efforts run efficiently. With the new capabilities in FLEXnet AdminStudio 7, FLEXnet AdminStudio Workflow Manager and MacrovisionÂ’s latest resources, including the FLEXnet AdminStudio SMS Edition and educational white paper on BDD, enterprises are reaping the benefits of BDD and are better able to make a seamless migration to Windows XP.

“Macrovision’s FLEXnet AdminStudio solutions enable enterprises to prepare reliable packages for deployment quickly and accurately,” said Fred Amoroso, president and CEO of Macrovision Corp. “By working with Microsoft and providing added value to its Solution Accelerator for BDD, Macrovision is standardizing and streamlining the software packaging process, ultimately helping enterprises to efficiently migrate to Windows XP, reduce desktop management costs and increase IT productivity.”

MicrosoftÂ’s Solution Accelerator for BDD Enterprise Edition leverages its Systems Management Server 2003 and the Operating System Deployment Feature Pack for the image capturing and zero touch image installation phases of a large scale desktop deployment project. Beyond deployment, Systems Management Server 2003 offers customers an enterprise-class software distribution and asset management solution that provides comprehensive inventory analysis, operating system and software distribution, and software usage tracking, and reporting. By integrating these core disciplines into a single solution, SMS 2003 allows customers to reduce the day-to-day operational costs of managing Windows, as well as enable their business to move more quickly. In addition to the project phases supported by SMS 2003, BDD provides guidance and automation for assisting with application and hardware compatibility, computer imaging, user state migration and zero touch user provisioning.

MacrovisionÂ’s BDD resources and enhancements include:

The newest version of FLEXnet AdminStudio SMS Edition provides customers of Microsoft Systems Management Server (SMS) 2003 with a suite of solutions that automates the complex process of preparing and converting applications and patches to the industry-standard MSI (Windows Installer) format for deployment across the enterprise. Over 10,000 packagers have downloaded and utilized the SMS Edition of FLEXnet AdminStudio since its introduction in September 2004. The FLEXnet AdminStudio 7 SMS Edition is available on MicrosoftÂ’s website at www.microsoft.com/smserver/downloads/2003/featurepacks/adminstudio.

New capabilities in the FLEXnet AdminStudio product line offer increased support and functionality for Microsoft Solution Accelerator for BDD, including Workflow ManagerÂ’s integrated BDD workflow template and reporting system that facilitate the entire software preparation process. Using FLEXnet Workflow Manager, IT administrators can see the entire BDD process chain, ensuring that software packaging best practices are applied across the organization.
