Lync 2013 upgrade on Office 2010 systems - have you faced the nightmare?

Well.. if you haven't been there, consider your self lucky :).
upgrading Lync to v.2013 on Office 2010 systems (you may ask why, we had our reasons :), mainly to start the O365 on the cloud effort) can be a nightmare as the Lync feature seem to grab the "Common Tools" from the Office 2013 also with it (at least through the Office Customization Tool), that interact with other, existing tools that may not work.. windows Search (not the Outlook search) may return email items with the Office 2013 logo and not open when clicked. upgrading to Office 2013 may bring the "configure utilities" screen if you have Lync 2013 on Office 2010 install.
so.. word of caution..

  • I just used the Lync 2013 client install, and not the office 2013 install. No issues, except that half of Microsoft don't know that the client exists. It is on the download page of the Microsoft Licensing site (if you have access to it) and uses a office key. - staples 9 years ago
