Office 365 Migration

Hello, I realize this is not really programming related but I'm an IT student intern for a law firm and my employer wants to migrate our office 365 to a new tenant that we can share with another law firm. He wants there to be lots of security as our firm can not be able to see the other firms information and vice versa, he would also like to move our office 365 licenses, as well as our entire office 365 to a new tenant. I don't think these things are very possible but he seems to think that they are. Has anybody had experience with this before and can offer help? Maybe this website isn't the best place to ask as it's not really programming haha but if not where else can I ask?

  • I'm a bit confused about your wording. Does you employer want to change the ownership of Office 365 to the new firm or is it a case the your employer wants the new firm to be able to access certain parts of your employers 365 build, like the use of the domain name and Sharepoint? - Druis 6 years ago
  • No, he wants a new Office 365 setup that both our firms can use. The purpose of this is to share the IManage because there is no other way for both our firms to file to the same place unless we are on the same 365 tenant. That being said, we still want our firms to be distinct from each other as much as possible. - joshfontaine 6 years ago

not really programming
Why would you think that there's any programming involved?!?

I really don't see how you would manage a shared 365 configuration. Apart from anything else, how will you manage license purchasing, allocation, etc., etc?

My reading of iManage's web site is that your set-up, i.e. currently as separate firms, is exactly what iManage was set up to handle. It's essentially a collaboration service.

Talk to iManage. Oh and the partner dealing with finance: your firm is about to spend some serious money!
