K2000 Driver Feed problems

I have created a Windows 7 x64 WIM image using the KNIT, and have been testing it on our various models of computers with the 3.4 driver feed work around.  I have run into a few issues with the task not recognizing that there are drivers in the drivers_postinstall folder.  Most of them were resolved by deleting the driver packages from the feed and then re-installing them.  However, for the models that are not in the feed, such as the Optiplex 755, it is still not recognizing there are any drivers.  I created a folder in drivers_postinstall\dell\windows_7_x64\755, but when the task runs, nothing happens.  I turned on the debug option, and once it lists the manufacturer, model and OS, it just stops and goes on to copying over the files for post install tasks.  I have tried numerous different paths, and also used the driver feed builder from the KACE site, but it still will not pick up any drivers on the 755.  Any ideas would be appreciated.

Answer Summary:
The 755 is part of a combo pack, therefore the path is drivers_postinstall\dell\windows_7_xxx\combo\Desktop\drivers See: http://itninja.com/blog/view/driverfeed-workaround-for-k2000-v3-4 Got the 2120 to work. I created a folder drivers_postinstall\dell\windows_7_x64\2120 and put the drivers I needed in it. It picked it up fine and ran DISM on it.

I downloaded the Win 7 CAB from Dell and extracted it to drivers_postinstall\dell\windows_7_x64\combo\Desktop\drivers.  It will now recognize there are drivers there will scroll through them with the xcopy command, but they never get installed.  Is there something else that needs to be done to actually make them get passed to the DISM command?

Comments:
  • If you are deploying windows 7 then the workaround automatically uses dism, not an xcopy command. make sure you are using the latest version of the workaround scripts.

  • I am using the version of scripts from the link above. I even just re-download and added them back in to the K2000 just to be sure. Same results. It images and then runs xcopy on all the drivers in drivers_postinall\dell\combo\Desktop.

I also tested this on a Latitude 2120 using the notebook combo drivers. However, it does not even pick up any drivers from drivers_postinstall\dell\windows_7_x64\combo\Notebook. - dawalker33 12 years ago
  • UPDATE: I got the 2120 to work. I created a folder drivers_postinstall\dell\windows_7_x64\2120 and put the drivers I needed in it. It picked it up fine and ran DISM on it. Not sure why it is recognizing that model and not the 755. - dawalker33 12 years ago

So every model of computer we own works fine, except the 755.  I was able to just create a folder for each model in drivers_postinstall\dell\windows_7_x64 and put the appropriate drivers in it and it works great.  Not sure why the 755 is giving me so many issues.  Does anyone have the 755 working with the driver feed workaround?

What happens when you run \\k2\drivers_postinstall\feed_tools\Get_Manufacturer_Model_OS.vbs?

Post the output.
