Generic Host Error With Win XP

Hello,
We have a number of XP SP3 machines that have started giving Generic Host 32 Errors affecting winhttp.dll and stopping network connections. Nothing has been updated and tried AV scans, swapping the dll resetting winsock and ip stack, but no joy.

Can anyone help?

If you are in a corporate environment, have you checked that the network team have not reconfigured routers/switches?  Have you looked in the event logs for the machines affected?
Do your A/V programs not get a regular update?

Comments:
  • Yes it's in a corporate environment but there have been no network changes.
Yes checked all event logs and nothing really shows apart from the generic error.
Yes AV gets regularly checked and is up to date on the machines with the issue. - Domjohnston 9 years ago
